2008-09 Registration/Enrollment information
Elementary school
Registration will be held at all Anchorage School District elementary
schools August 5-7, 2008. All students must register prior to the beginning of school. Kindergartners must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2008.
If
you need assistance determining the school your child will attend, please use our online boundary tools or call Demographics, 907-348-5190. Families new to the district or with kindergarten students may find our Newcomer's Guide helpful.
For families
who are out of town on these dates, schools will continue
to take registrations. Students who have not registered
will not be placed on a class list.

Kindergarten classes begin Tuesday, August 26, 2008
From August 20-25, kindergarten teachers
will meet individually with parents and students
for a brief orientation and assessment activities.
During the orientation conference, parents will complete
a questionnaire and students will participate in
several activities.
The interaction with the students
will help teachers compile information needed to
complete the Developmental Profile required by the
Alaska Department of Education and Early Development.
This information also assists teachers in making
decisions about classroom instruction and helps establish
a positive partnership between the home and the school.
After registration schools will contact families to arrange appointments. |

First grade classes begin Tuesday, August 26, 2008 for 31 schools
All first grade students at 30 elementary schools and one charter school will start classes four days later than other students to allow teachers, students and parents to meet during the first four days of school.
This program, called "Ready, Set, Learn", is similar to the process kindergarten students have been participating in for a number of years. It allows first grade teachers the opportunity to meet individually with their new students and parents in a 45-60 minute session. Learn more about the program in this letter to parents.
