Why does replacing Clark cost $65 million?

Construction costs have risen substantially over the past few years due to national and international events, such as rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina and world-wide demand on material resources. Higher fuel costs and limited supplies and equipment all contribute to rising costs. The Clark project includes special site considerations and significant demolition and remediation costs.

Why is Clark the district’s top priority?

Clark is a Title I school facing significant educational challenges. Staff is making progress improving student achievement, but the district must continually focus on making Clark an optimum learning environment for students. Research shows the quality of the physical environment significantly impacts academic outcomes.

ASD has invested $1.2 million in Chester Valley Elementary to fix its roof, address traffic issues and complete other major maintenance. Excellent maintenance and custodial support help keep that building operating. Like Chester Valley, Sand Lake Elementary needs renewal, but the district is unwilling to request more in bond debt than it has paid off.
