Welcome! The Training and Professional Development Department is here to serve the employees of the Anchorage School District. Our Board approved six-year plan well defines the specifics of our mission.

Our goals are to serve those professional development needs best facilitated in a centralized fashion. To that end the department uses the MyLearningPlan (MLP) tool to advertise, track, and document the over 4,000 annual trainings, inservices, credit courses, and other professional development events sponsored by the Anchorage School District.

Our department reports to the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and is funded by a combination of Federal Title II/V and the ASD General Operating Budget dollars. Our web site is an accurate portrayal of the areas we are engaged in. We hope it is a helpful tool in meeting your professional development needs.

As an educational institution it is imperative that the Anchorage School District fully embrace the notion of the “life-long” learner. It is the Department’s strong belief that the District does just that. Evidence of that can be found in the strong commitment to increased accountability surrounding mandatory trainings. In 2007-08 the Anchorage School District Summer Academy (ASDSA) provided one of the largest, most collegial professional development opportunities ever offered in the state. Likewise, the Developing Exemplary Educational Leaders (DEEL) project, largest teacher mentoring program in the state, and the plethora of training and professional development opportunities provided by the various departments, schools, and divisions all show the drive by this District to engage the life-long learners of our educational learning community.

Come join us in increasing your personal and our organizational growth efforts!
