Staff

The Anchorage School District Adapted Physical Education Department staffs seven certified and three para-professional (teaching assistants) that serve over fifty-six schools and over four hundred students.

The staff bring with them diversified areas of expertise and skills, putting together a diverse program to meet the physical education needs of students with special needs.

Heather has a Bachelors degree in Physical Education with a minor in Psychology as well as a Masters degree from Azusa Pacific University in Education  with an emphasis on Physical Education. She holds a Secondary Teaching Credential from San Diego State University and received her C.A.P.E in June of 2001. Heather has taught regular P.E. for 22 years in California and is in her third year of teaching Adapted P.E. for the Anchorage School District. "I have always loved to play and I can't think of a better occupation or state to play in!"

David Poulin holds an advanced teaching certificate in the fields of Physical Education and Adapted Physical Education K-12.  He currently teaches in 12 schools in the Anchorage School District as an Adapted Physical Education Specialist.  Formal schooling was completed at Eastern Connecticut State University and Charlotte Mason College located in the United Kingdom.  David has been involved with the Special Olympics since 1990 and has been teaching since 1996.

Tait attended University of Nevada, Las Vegas and received a BS in Physical Education and an endorsement in Adapted P.E. He coaches basketball and volleyball and taught for 3 years in the Denali Borough School District. "I enjoy being part of a department where 88% of the staff are nationally certified and have the opportunity to directly teach students through the Anchorage School District on a daily basis, ensuring that all children with disabilities enjoy similar benefits of exercise."
