Expectations of Peer Tutor While Participating Within the Regular Physical Education Class With a Special Needs Student

The peer tutor will participate in any activity along with the student with special needs:

  1. there is no sitting on the sidelines, you are an ACTIVE participant within the regular physical education class

  2. you will be guiding the student with special needs in the physical education class

  3. try to have the special needs student be as independent as possible, in other words, do not hold his or her hand and lead he or she physically throughout the class

  4. remember the your “buddy” will be modeling your behavior

  5. you are not only responsible to the Adapted P.E. instructor, but the regular physical education instructor as well

  6. there will be data collection that you will be responsible for which will be required one time per week on a special form, this data will be very basic and not complicated for you to record

  7. if the student with special needs is absent, you are required to participate in the physical education class, your attendance is part of your grade, you will also be able to be prepared for the activities once the student has returned to school
