Assessment & Evaluation (A&E)

2008-09 ASD Climate & Connectedness Student Survey

The 2008-09 Climate & Connectedness Student Survey is being done to provide schools with information about perceptions and experiences related to school climate and student connectedness for use in setting school goals and redirecting resources.

School climate and student connectedness have been shown to be pre-conditions for learning to take place. The Climate & Connectedness Surveys will provide principals and school staff valid and reliable data regarding school climate and student connectedness. All ASD schools are taking many steps to improve school climate and student connectedness, and these surveys will provide reliable data to document change in these areas.

The questions contained in the student grades 3-4 questionnaire ask about Caring Others and Social and Emotional Learning.

The questions contained in the student grades 5-12 questionnaire ask about School Leadership and Student Involvement, Respectful Climate, High Expectations, School Safety, Peer Climate, Caring Adults, School Danger and Social and Emotional Skills.

2008-09 ASD Climate & Connectedness Parent/Guardian Survey

In an effort to increase the return rate, the Assessment and Evaluation Department is going to provide parents/guardians with multiple opportunities to complete the survey.

Parents/guardians will complete one survey for each child in school. In case of dual guardianship, surveys will be mailed to each parent or guardian. The mailed survey and on-line survey will have a notation to disregard the notice if they previously completed a survey.

Surveys mailed with the test results in June will be in self-addressed, postage paid mailers, making it easy for parents/guardians to return the surveys directly back to the Assessment & Evaluation Department. The same format is used for K, 1, and 2 students.

2008-09 ASD Climate & Connectedness Staff Survey

Climate & Connectedness Staff Survey is an online survey through www.surveymonkey.com. The Assessment and Evaluation Department will send the Web link of the survey to the email account of every staff member in the school (teachers, administrators, counselors, support staff, etc.) on January 20, 2009.

Staff will complete the survey during the survey window, January 20 to February 6. The online survey will be closed on February 6.

Technical Guidance (Staff)

After reviewing technical difficulties from the 2008 administration we have found that the Safari browser on Macintosh Computers was not always working with the survey. Firefox, on the other hand, was working for users. Here are four possible choices you may use to complete the survey; they are in no particular order.

CHOICE ONE: Firefox

Some users may find that their Safari browser pops up instead of Firefox. This occurs because it is the default browser on many computers. In order to fix this you can copy and paste the link into the Firefox browser.

Survey link will be made available on January 20, 2009

You may also use the Firefox browser to navigate to the ASD Web site and complete the survey from there. The link is located below, please find the "2008-09 ASD Climate & Connectedness Staff Survey" section and click on the statement "Click here to complete the 2008-09 Climate & Connectedness Staff Survey.”

CHOICE TWO: Safari Fix Number 1

Enable Javascript in Safari:

CHOICE THREE: Safari Fix Number 2

Enable cookies in Safari (if the things above don't help):

CHOICE Four: PDF of Survey

Complete the survey in paper form after printing the following PDF. You may use interschool mail to send the completed survey to ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION.

If it still doesn't work for you send an e-mail to assessment@asdk12.org with the details and we will work on any additional technical issues that surface.

Thank you for your patience in this process.
