The Anchorage School Board and Anchorage taxpayers are counting on the legislature to continue this partnership by fully honoring past commitments for bonded indebtedness reimbursement. The Anchorage School Board also requests the Legislature continue to extend the
school debt reimbursement program to help meet current and future school construction and
major maintenance needs. One modification to this partnership is also requested: to allow allocation
of matching grant funds to the Anchorage School District for “high need” projects,
such as the renewal of Clark Middle School, which suffers from overcrowding and structural
deterioration. While the School Board and district administration fully support the allocation of
grant funding to rural districts for building projects, Anchorage also needs assistance reconciling
approximately $600 million in unmet needs for the district’s capital improvement projects.
