SCIENCE CONNECTIONS

http://www.micron.com:80/mti/hr/education/
Here is a website offered by Micron to "better prepare students for a high-tech world." It includes a variety of lesson plans that were co-developed by Micron Technology and White Pine Elementary School of the Boise School District. They have been used and improved in classrooms over a period of several years.

http://sln.fi.edu/biosci/heart.html The Heart: An Online Exploration
For an outstanding study or review of the human heart, move here from very serious information about heart disease, to anatomical drawings that are interlinked and accompanied by text, to activities about the heart in popular culture and poetry. The heart history articles include a chronology of milestones in cardiology, from William Harvey's first description of blood circulation, in 1628, to Willem DeVries' first implant of a permanent artificial heart, in 1982. Highlights are the many colorful visuals, a movie illustrating blood circulation and, as you explore the site, a steady sound of a beating heart is in the background.

The excellent and detailed Backyard Wildlife Habitat Planning Guide presented here will be appreciated by critters from every state, and provides fine lessons in wildlife conservation that begins at home or schoolyard. Food, water, plant cover, places to raise young, and other important matters are explained. The needs and preferences of birds and butterflies are described, and there are directions for mixing seeds to the tastes of different bird species. The habitat page links to other Georgia Wildlife subjects for more study of plants and animals, and of their conservation.

We have a great State Science Olympiad Web-Site. Check it out.Anyone wanting to add something to the above site, simply e-mail Carl Edwards at
Edwards_Carl@msmail.asd.k12.ak.us. He would love to hear from you and will willingly include your suggestions! Thanks Carl!

http://forum.swarthmore.edu/mam/ Web site for those interested in integrating biology and math. April 1999 is Math Awareness Month, and this year's theme is "Mathematics and Biology."

http://www.howstuffworks.com

How Stuff Works is a great place for students to learn about how things work in the world around them. This site encourages students to explore how a car engine works, what gears do, or what makes the inside of a refrigerator cold with easy to understand explanations and great graphics. Grade Level: Middle School, High School
