Internet Safety
Students spend an ever increasing amount of time online. Although they often have a much higher comfort level for all things electronic than the adults in their lives, they rarely have a clear picture of the potential dangers they may be exposed to, nor do they fully understand their own personal responsibility in how they interact with others online. Schools have been directed to pull together a team to deliver instruction. These teams may include the librarian, an assistant principal, a counselor, the technology coordinator and classroom teachers. Delivery can be in the classroom setting or assembly style depending on the needs of the school. School Resource Officers have received training and are willing to present the section on Personal Safety. Contact them directly to set this up. School librarians are already covering intellectual property, copyright and fair use.
Each section is set up with an introduction and key information, required lessons, additional lessons, resources and standards alignment. There are few videos that may be shown. If you have trouble viewing them, please contact your technology coordinator. If you have other questions, check with your librarian.
