The Houghton Mifflin Spelling/Vocabulary program is used in summer school. Although not a core program across the district, a few other schools have access to these materials, too.
Below are pretests for both 7th and 8th grade that have been formatted for each weekly spelling unit. The pretest is used so students can determine what they already know about the words. It helps students formulate a generalization about the pattern being presented. It also gives them an opportunity to analyze their spelling errors, which impacts long-term memory. |
