In January 2002, the federal law that
governs public education was reauthorized
and named the No Child Left
Behind Act (NCLB). This law brings major
reforms to public schools and is designed
to increase accountability and improve
student achievement.
If you are a classroom aide, tutor, or
teacher assistant working in a school that
receives Title I federal funding, you must
meet the following NCLB requirements:
- Have an associate’s degree; or
- Have two years of higher
education (48 credits); or
- Pass the HELP Test and an
observation

Except for the ASD Summer Academy (ASDSA),

Meeting NCLB requirements to receive pay increase?
Option 1

48 college semester credits
TOTEM members must request copies of all
official sealed transcripts, equal to 48
semester credit hours, from college or
university records office. TOTEM members
must submit official sealed transcripts and a
salary increase form to ASD Human
Resources. |

Option 2 -
HELP Assessment and Review
Upon passing the HELP Assessment and the
employee observation, TOTEM members
must submit the Certificate of Completion from
the District Accountability Department and the
salary increase form to ASD Human
Resources Department. |

| Title I provides financial support for Title I
paraprofessionals who are meeting
NCLB requirements through college
credits by offering some financial
reimbursement for tuition. All assistance
requires pre-approval. To see if you
