 Bus schedules

The Anchorage School District brings 20,000 students to and from school each day. More than 250 buses cover over 1,500 routes and travel 3,000,000 miles annually. The school district operates 84 buses and a private company, First Student, is contracted for the remainder.

Transportation is provided for students living 1.5 miles or more from their neighborhood school. Bus stops are established by the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development regulations and the school district’s transportation criteria.

Transportation is also provided for students who live within 1.5 miles of their school, but who would have to walk across or along an unsafe roadway that has been designated “hazardous” by the school district’s Hazardous Transportation Committee and the School Board.
