WEST RUSSIAN STUDENTS PRESENT PROJECT AT BERINGIA DAYS IN FAIRBANKS
West High Russian students recently presented the results of the first year of their Beringia Shared Cultural Heritage project at the National Parks Symposium and Beringia Days joint conference in Fairbanks, Alaska. In early 2008, West High learned that the National Park Service had chosen their proposal as one of three Beringia projects to be funded for a three-year period. The students' goal is to raise awareness of climate change and educate young people about what they can do to reduce human impact on the planet. Among the other presenters at the conference on October 14-16, 2008 were representatives from many research institutes, including National Resources Canada, UNEP Russia, and the Smithsonian Institution.
