This month's Point of Pride

ASD Point of Pride logo. Joann Hubbard

ASD’s science educator Joanna Hubbard is currently at McMurdo Station in Antarctica participating in Project Iceberg, a multinational scientific drilling effort led by ANDRILL. Joanna and a group of several dozen scientists and technicians have been working to recover a sedimentary rock core from the sea floor beneath the sea ice of McMurdo Sound. The team hopes the rock core will offer insights about the past environment, climate, and geologic history of Antarctica. Several ASD schools and science classrooms are following Joanna’s journey through videos and blogs that focus on inquiry science using science notebooks with challenges, scenarios with geoscience data and discussion questions. To read more about this experience, look at Joanna’s photos, videos or class challenges, log on to the Project Iceberg Web page.

Congratulations Joanna - we're proud of you!
