School Business Partnerships
Approximately 80 percent of Anchorage School
District schools are joined to at least one local business
through our School Business Partnerships. These mergers
are designed to create positive community relations
and provide participants a better understanding of
issues pertaining to the district. Currently there
are more than 650 active partners involving nearly
12,000 students.
Partnerships for students
with disabilities
School business and community
partnerships support students with
disabilities by providing vocational
experiences, training toward
independent living, and participation
in recreation/ leisure activities.
Special education students may
participate in school-to-work
activities as part of their
Individualized Education Plan
beginning in high school and as they
transition to post-secondary support
within the community.

Inside out
It’s important to acknowledge the generosity of ASD employees
in their efforts to meet community needs from the inside out. Each
year, many staff members participate in programs which help build
a stronger Anchorage by targeting needs within our local area.
Recipients include the annual United Way Charitable Giving Campaign
and the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, among others.
Count me in
Parents and community members offer invaluable
support to district personnel by taking part in a variety
of committees including the PTA, Black Education Task
Force, Special Education Advisory Committee, Native
Advisory Committee, and Minority Education Concerns
Committee. Participation is a rewarding way to become
involved in the lifelong learning and education of
Anchorage students. |
