Our students…the heart of our story

We endeavor to keep the main thing, the main thing. In our district, students are the main thing. Their enthusiasm and energy are contagious. These young people offer us a glimpse of our future. We're proud to say that it looks pretty bright!

We are…

  • 89th largest school district of about 15,000 nationwide
  • approximately 50,000 students strong and growing
  • 2,356 high school students took advanced placement, college-level courses in 2005-2006

Did you know?

  • ASD met 24 of 31 federal Adequate Yearly Progress targets in 2005
  • Over 90 different languages are spoken by our students
  • Anchorage students need 22.5 credits to graduate, the most stringent requirements in Alaska
  • Ninety-six percent of 12th graders who met ASD's graduation requirements also passed the Alaska High School Graduation Qualifying Exam (HSGQE) — proving their skills in reading, writing and math — and earned diplomas.
