MS Office

  • The current Microsoft Office version that the District supports is Office 2004 for Mac and Office 2003 for PC. New versions are not currently installed or supported by IT Department.

MS Windows

  • Microsoft is no longer offering the purchase of Windows XP License. They are offering Windows Vista License; however, the District is not planning to move to Windows Vista at this time and you can only install Windows XP.
  • Purchase MS Windows media and license from OETC and visit the OETC website for current price and part number.

Virex Perpetual License

  • Virex must be ordered for every new computer purchased.
  • Like MS Office, the only exception is if the new computer is a replacement for an older computer that is being surplused and there is an existing Virex license for the older computer. In this case, the license is transferred to the new machine. Schools are responsible for making sure they have the appropriate number of licenses for their buildings.
  • Purchase Virex from OETC. The producer of Virex is Network Associates.

  • The District will "true-up" and purchase enough Virex licenses for the next licensing period. Any existing Virex licenses in the schools as of that date will be covered under the new software assurance license.
  • After the "true-up," the process starts over again and schools are required to purchase Virex for every new computer until the next District "true-up."

Easy Grade Pro

  • Version Upgrades are available for free.
  • To qualify for upgrade pricing, schools must register their site license with Orbis Software.
  • For replacement CDs or to receive upgrades on CD obtained directly from Orbis. Payment must be by school check or purchase order. No personal checks or credit cards are accepted.

  • Per Orbis Customer Service Representative, schools with site licenses can share an upgrade CD or duplicate the CD because Orbis does not charge for upgrades. A district can also put the upgrade on a server for schools with site license to download.

Apple Maintenance Program (AMP)

Apple is offering ASD a three-year, non-cancelable agreement, that entitles the district to receive every major upgrade release to Mac OS X. The Apple Maintenance Program is designed to protect your software investment and reduce your total cost of ownership.

FileMaker

Filemaker version 7 and older will no longer be shipped and will not be supported by Filemaker. 

Filemaker version 9 is the current version.   If you want a copy of the older version 8 or 8.5 media, it will cost an additional $20 along with the purchase license for 9.  Filemaker states that version 9, 8.5 and 8 are compatible with 7.  If you have questions please contact your building support tech.

I/T Application Development and Programming does not support Filemaker.

NOTE: Filemaker Pro 7, 8, 8.5 and 9 will convert documents created in previous versions of FileMaker Pro. Furthermore, converted and newly created documents cannot be opened by older versions of FileMaker Pro.

Visit the OETC website for information on versions 8 and 8.5. 9. In addition, FileMaker has moved to electronic download. An email is sent with a link to the download the media within 30 days from the date on the email.

Altiris

Altiris software allows IT to identify, manage and track all computer hardware equipment and installed software throughout the district. For the managed computers, the software also allows IT to deploy software updates as well as troubleshoot systems from virtually anywhere.

Check with your Building Technology Coordinator or the IT Help Desk to determine if you are on a managed or non-managed computer.

Purchasing will go out for bid when they receive the purchase requisition so the vendor is TBA.

IT will be responsible for yearly maintenance fees.
