ENGLISH 9

Class Introduction: The ninth grade course is a survey of literature and writing designed to prepare the student for higher-level reading and thinking at the high school level. Students in this course will be exposed to a wide variety of accepted literature, both Western and multi-cultural, and must show ability to analyze literature in writing while demonstrating a satisfactory command of literary terms and the conventions of English.

Students will learn to employ literary devices to analyze texts, effectively communicate through formal writing, and make practical use of technology. Themes involving coming of age, heroes, and conflict will be explored in many genres of literature, including novels, short stories, poems, plays, and non-fiction.
