T‌he importance of partnerships

From classroom visits to workplace exposure, partnerships give students the opportunity for real world experiences. The Career Technical Education Department partners with industry professionals in each program offered to ensure classroom instruction and student growth meets industry standards. These partnerships allow us to build a smooth transition for students to take the next step towards their careers.

Visiting a School

Many industry partners enjoy being involved with our students directly in the classroom, whether it's judging a competition, conducting mock-interviews or leading a classroom presentation.  To help industry partners prepare for your visits to classrooms, please review our Partner Handbook.  In it, you will find logistical information about visiting a school campus, outlines you can follow to prepare presentations and much more.  Thank you for being will to visit our CTE classrooms and we hope you enjoy your time as much as we enjoy having you.

Advisories

ASD CTE Advisories are made up of representatives from the professional community, post-secondary education, the state of Alaska and school district employees. The purpose of advisories is to advise, assist and advocate for CTE programs and the implementation of CTE goals and initiatives. There are three tiers of advisories in the CTE department:

The Advisory Council focuses on district-wide initiatives affecting all CTE programs, ensuring that what is offered reflects the economy of Alaska.

Business & Industry Advisory Committees focus on specific programs offered district-wide, ensuring each program reflects industry standards.  Current Business & Industry Advisories include:

  • Arts, A/V Tech & Communication
  • Architecture & Construction
  • Information Technology
  • Engineering Technology

Getting Involved

We have a wide variety of ways that industry professionals can get involved in the classroom. Examples of involvement include classroom presentations, providing fieldtrip opportunities, providing workplace experiences for students, teacher training and more. We like for all of our students to encounter real world opportunities and professionals. If you are interested in getting involved with CTE, please contact Bethany Fernandez at fernandez_bethany@asdk12.org or 907-742-4045.
