Advanced Placement and higher level coursework

About the program

More about AP AP & Higher Level Coursework Six-Year Instructional Plan »

The Anchorage School District’s Six-Year Instructional Plan recognizes the value of higher-level, challenging, rigorous coursework for all of our students.  Equitable access is a guiding principal for our AP program.   We believe that all students who are willing to accept the challenge of a rigorous academic program should be encouraged and supported to do so.  Additionally, we are working to remove the barriers that have traditionally restricted access to rigorous coursework for students from some socioeconomic, ethnic, and racial groups.

Teachers and administrators have developed curricular alignment across content areas in a clearly articulated, vertical framework to guide teachers and students to success.  Schools continue their efforts to create a learning environment that provides all students with the requisite skills to succeed in rigorous coursework across content areas.  Integrated student and family support services involve parents and the wider community in supporting and celebrating student achievement in higher-level coursework. Together, these efforts create school cultures that encourage excellence and high achievement for all ASD students.
