Equitable access for all our students to higher-level, challenging, rigorous coursework

The Anchorage School District is committed to the principal that all students deserve the opportunity to participate in challenging, rigorous coursework. Our program is designed to build access, enrollment, and success in higher-level coursework for all our students.

To achieve this goal, we begin with the curriculum and a clearly articulated vertical framework that guides teachers and students to success. Within this framework, students learn the requisite skills to success in rigorous coursework. Teachers work together across grade levels to build students’ knowledge and skills, while creating a learning environment that promotes high expectations for all students.

The Advanced Placement represents the end-point of this framework. Students taking AP classes will not only have the opportunity to receive college credit for mastering challenging material, they will also gain valuable experience and confidence in their own ability to reach their goals in life.
