The Assistive Technology Department equipment library is an evaluative
library of items from which school teams can borrow
to investigate with students. The "library" format is utilized
so that school teams have access to a variety of devices for exploration
with students
who may benefit from Assistive Technology. Teams
can borrow a device, try it out and see if it works with the student.
Once a device is found
to be beneficial to the student in accessing their
curriculum, the school team can recommend the device and amend the
IEP.
The Assistive Technology Department maintains a limited library of augmentative
communication, computer access, environmental control and adaptive/alternative
writing devices. Single switch, writing, and some reading software programs
are also available.
Where the Assistive Technology Department maintains a library of equipment
to be used to evaluate an individual student's needs, the Preschool,
Elementary and Secondary Special Education departments
maintain a very limited library of equipment for use by large groups
of students. This
equipment, mostly software, is intended for curriculum
support.
