ASD Curriculum Committees
According to ASD School Board Policy 341.2
FUNCTIONS

Develop content and performance standards for respective areas.

Develop recommendations for curriculum frameworks, curriculum guides, course descriptions and titles.

Develop recommendations for the preview and/or adoption of textbooks and instructional materials (i.e., share in results of field test initiatives) that support the adopted content and performance standards.

Assist central administration staff in review, evaluation and changes in curriculum and design (i.e. review curriculum change proposals).

Develop recommendations to address training needs in curricular areas.
MEMBERSHIP

Curriculum committees may be composed of any/all of the following:

Department chairs from of each high school/middle school.

Additional teacher representatives, administrators, parents, community members and designated groups (i.e., PTA, MECC).

Curriculum committee members are essential to effective articulation and implementation of the K-12 instructional program. Regular attendance is critical and appreciated.

During curriculum renewal and materials adoption processes, a “Curriculum Adoption Review Committee” representing the professional staff, students, and the community may be appointed. This committee will work under the direction of, and make recommendations to the curriculum committee in the appropriate area. These recommendations will then be reviewed by the Instructional Division, the Anchorage Council of PTAs, the MECC and the Student Advisory Board prior to forwarding to the Superintendent for final recommendation to the School Board.
In addition to the standing curriculum committees, various advisory and ad hoc committees may be created as sub committees and assigned to work on special projects under the direction of the appropriate curriculum coordinator.
OPERATION

Curriculum committees meet at least quarterly, and may meet more frequently if necessary.
