» Parents are considered the primary and most important providers of sexuality education information to their children.

» At the elementary level, child sexual abuse prevention content is covered in the first quarter of each school year. While parents are notified of this instruction they are not given the opportunity for their student to opt-out per the Anchorage School Board-approved Sexuality Education Guidelines for Instruction (PDF).

» Human growth and development content is covered in fifth and sixth grades and is typically taught in co-ed settings (PDF). Parents are given the opportunity to preview all materials associated with instruction and to provide positive permission for participation.
