Alaska is home. I grew up in Anchorage after moving here in 1973 and graduated from Steller Secondary School in the Anchorage School District. I am of mixed European decent- mainly Scottish and English. My family comes from the mid- and north-west part of the lower 48. I speak some Spanish and a little bit of Malaysian.
Body/mind connections in the learning process interest me. I think we can help our children stay whole if we listen to them and encourage them to use their bodies as they learn academics. I am a certified yoga teacher and I also enjoy reading, hiking, and playing with my two year old son. My husband and I are making progress on a major house remodel we began in 2005.
I have worked for the district since 1999 and have been with Title VII Indian Education since 2001. I have learned so much about Alaska since I have had the privilege to work with Native students and families. I currently take care of collecting and vetting the student eligibility “506” forms which determine our Title VII grant funding. I also work as the librarian for the Title VII, Indian Education Resource library. In the past I worked as a Title VII Youth Development Tutor at Denali Elementary and North Star Elementary schools.
