I grew up on a farm in rural South Dakota with a love for adventure and people, especially children. I enjoy quilting, painting, drawing, crafts, all types of skiing, hiking, cooking, and food preservation. I have my bachelor’s of science in Middle School Education with concentrations in Science and Art. After substituting in the district for two years, I am now going on my second year as a Youth Development Tutor with the district. Primarily, as a tutor, I reinforce classroom learning by creating new or different connections to material that relate to student’s previous knowledge, building up background knowledge, practicing concepts, and utilizing scaffolding techniques. Another high priority for me is getting students to set their own high standards of success. I am a strong believer in success breeding success, when a student is successful in one area; it is likely they will have the confidence to be successful in another. I want my students to be proud of who they are, where they came from, and where they are going. At my school, I offer tutoring in reading, writing, and mathematics as well as cultural studies.
