I am originally from Scammon Bay, Alaska, which is below the mouth of the Yukon River. Yup’ik is my first language and will be teaching Yup’ik for kindergarten through second grade at the Alaska Native Cultural Charter School. I spent most of my life living at Scammon Bay, but went to Bethel, Alaska to attend Bethel Regional High School. I started my career working as a special education teacher aide, then went to college and graduated from Alaska Pacific University in 1990. I have been teaching since 1991 as a kindergarten teacher, first/second grade teacher and K-12 Yup’ik teacher for Indian Ed.

I have a wonderful supportive husband from my village and we have two adult daughters and two young boys who are in fourth and fifth grade.  We enjoy fishing, traveling and watching shows together.  When I am not teaching I enjoy learning from elders.  I have translated and transcribed for elders since 1984 and have learned so much from working with our knowledgeable elders.

I started teaching for the Anchorage School District three years ago, but have taught Yup’ik for Indian Education before becoming a full time teacher for ASD.  I taught at my village for 10 years before moving to Anchorage and after the move I taught at Anchorage Christian Preschool, CITC as a reading teacher at Chinook Elementary, second grade teacher at Chinook Elementary, 21st Century tutor at Williwaw Elementary and have taught Yup’ik Science/Survive Alaska for the Imaginarium for two consecutive summers.

I am excited about my new position at ANCCS and am happy to be working with our students and teachers/staff.
