Standards-Based Assessment & Reporting

Feedback from parents

Parent feedbackHow has SBAR helped you understand your child's achievement?

I was better able to focus on areas that needed improvement at home. For example, rather than trying to address an entire subject such as "Reading" or "Writing" we could concentrate on vocabulary or structure specifically.

It gave me a clearer picture of where my child is amongst his peers, what's expected and where his strengths are.

With this new assessment of reporting, I am provided with a more detailed understanding of the areas evaluated for my child in each subject.

Parent feedbackDo you think your child has a better understanding of the learning process?

Yes, I believe the numerical system seems less arbitrary than the letters. The advancement from one number to another seems easier for them to comprehend. Working their way up a numerical ladder seems to make goal setting more concrete.

Yes I do. Her reading has improved but she knows she needs to work on reading her sentences more fluently.

My child understands that although he can “write”, there are many elements he needs to master to be a “quality” writer. His teacher has shared with him the areas of weakness that he needs to give greater focus. He better understands with this form of reporting.

Yes. I think the report card helped us talk to our son about each component so that he knows what he needs to work on.
