Capital Improvement Plan VII. Current Facilities Utilization Return to Table of Contents EED Capacity: The District has made the decision to report its individual school capacities as the capacity that is assigned to that school by the Department of Education and Early Development (EED). These capacities are calculated by EED based primarily on square footage of the facility and the grade level of students attending the school (elementary or secondary). Based on these calculations, the typical 26-classroom prototype school, such as Kincaid, Russian Jack, or Lake Hood, has a capacity of 556 students. These capacities are often quite different than the ASD capacities reported in prior CIP documents. The ASD capacities were computed on a school-by-school basis, with number of classrooms and their utilization the determining factors. Facilities Utilization: In addition to capacity, which is based on facility square footage, there is a need for information on how the school is used programmatically. Administrators are aware that some programs or special services require space beyond the normal capacity of a classroom. Therefore, in this report, information is provided to assist the schools and administration in evaluating the actual number of students that can be housed, based on classroom utilization. Part of this information is summarized in tables 20, 21 and 22, which list information on each school related to number of classrooms, square footage, and relocatable units in use. In Appendix A, in addition to a detailed projection for each school, there is information on the number and types of special programs and special space requirements for the school. This information was provided by the individual units. Schools Projected at Greater Than 120 Percent of Capacity: Table 23 lists the next 6 years projected enrollment of all schools, as a percentage of capacity.
