Elementary Space Specifications
The general space specification for an elementary school is based on
projected enrollment of about
550 students in grades K-6. Based upon the State of
Alaska Elementary Space Allocation of 106.25
square feet per elementary student, a school will be
approximately 58,300 square feet and will be
built upon a 15-acre site having no existing infrastructure.
It should be noted that these are preliminary educational space specifications
and may change after
detailed review of the schematic design.
In addition to the standard elementary school curriculum, this facility
will also provide pull out
educational programs in resource rooms for main-streamed
special education students and students
requiring tutorial instruction. The space allocation
for schools with additional special education or
special services programs utilizing self contained
classrooms may be granted an additional square footage
allowance with DOE approval.
