Current Facilities Utilization Return to Table of Contents Program Capacity: The District has made the decision to report its individual school capacities on a Program, rather than EED basis. EED calculations are based primarily on the square footage of the facility and the grade level of students attending the school (elementary or secondary). Based on these calculations, the prototypical 26-classroom school, such as Kincaid, Russian Jack, or Lake Hood, has a capacity of 536 students. These capacities are often quite different than the program capacities computed on a school-by-school basis, with the number of classrooms and their utilization being the determining factors. For example, the Program Capacity for Kincaid is 484, Russian Jack is 469, and Lake Hood is 529. This difference in capacities for schools that are basically identical in structure is due to the nature of the programs functioning at each of these schools, or the utilization. Facilities Utilization: Administrators are aware that some programs, or special services, require space beyond the normal capacity of a classroom. Therefore, in this report, information is provided to assist the schools and administration in evaluating the actual number of students that can be housed, based on classroom utilization. Part of this information is summarized in tables 20-22, which lists information on each school related to number of classrooms, square footage, and relocatable units in use. In Appendix A, in addition to a detailed projection for each school, there is information on the number and types of special programs and special space requirements for each school, as provided by staff of the individual units. Schools Projected at Greater Than 120 Percent of Capacity: Table 23 lists the projected enrollment of all schools, for the next 6 years, as a percentage of capacity.
