In the Anchorage School District, both quality of work and quality of life are valued. The primary goal of
the Equal Employment Opportunity Office is to support the School Board's policy and mission by
empowering employees to respect diversity, accept, respect and recognize individual differences, and value
the talents and abilities of all employees. We believe that when we do those things, we develop each
employee’s strengths and build their commitment to share their best with students.

It is important for those staff members who are closely involved with students to understand the difference between friendly and overly-friendly behaviors. This brochure outlines examples that can help determine when friendly behaviors begin to cross the line to overly-friendly.
In addition to routine EEO services, the EEO Office also provides additional employment services to employees and applicants — how to apply, interviewing skills, resume writing and constructive feedback on interview performance.
All members of the teaching profession (as
defined in AS 14.20.370) are obligated to

Commission.
The primary focus of the Anchorage School District’s Equal Employment

district’s workforce.
During the 2008-09 school year, all Anchorage School District facilities became latex-reduced work
environments. ASD employees are encouraged to replace latex gloves with vinyl ones
and to evaluate work areas to insure as many latex products as possible
are removed. Latex balloons are also no longer allowed at worksites.
