READING ASSESSMENTS
Houghton Mifflin Phonics/Decoding Screening Test
This assessment is used to assess phonics and phonics-related skills. The various tasks have a list of letters or words to identify or decode. In addition to real words, pseudowords are used because students can’t memorize them, and must rely on their decoding skills to pronounce the words accurately.

Houghton Mifflin Leveled Reading Passages Assessment
This diagnostic assessment is individually administered and teacher scored. It provides valuable information regarding the students’ abilities in decoding words, fluency, and comprehension.
Record of Oral Reading Passages
A one-on-one record of oral reading using: HM leveled readers’ oral reading passages, story summaries from HM Teacher’s Resource Blackline Masters, or passages from other trade books. These can be used as an alternative to the Houghton Mifflin Leveled Reading Passages.
