SPRING 2010 STUDENT TEACHER/INTERN APPLICATIONS WILL BE CLOSED ON OCTOBER 30, 2009
Student teacher or teacher intern (individuals enrolled in a teacher preparation program who are attempting to secure their culminating field experience) placements in the ASD require an individual to go through a number of steps before a placement can occur.
We do have a limited number of placement opportunities available and following the correct university and district processes is critical in gaining approval.
IMPORTANT! Please make sure you have applied for a Student Teaching Authorization from the Department of Education and Early Development (DEED). Click here to download the form.

Step 1
Ensure that you have met all university requirements for applying for ASD approval.
Step 2
Submit your online application for approval with the ASD through the link and prompts below. The application should take you less than ten minutes to complete. A student teacher/intern should apply four to six months prior to the semester you are requesting approval for.
- Click on the "Apply now" link below.
- Click on the "Start an application for employment" link (our student teacher/intern application is housed there).
- When you reach Step 3: Vacancy Desired, skip this page by clicking the next button until you get to Step 4: Position Desired where you check just the “University student teacher/intern” box near the top of the page. That action will load the student teacher/intern approval application for you to complete. Click the next button until you are taken to the next step.
Applicants should NOT contact principals about placements until they have been approved by the district and instructed to do so. Failure to follow that direction or truthfully and completely answer any of the online application questions will result in a denial of approval.
Step 3
Make sure you have been able to respond positively to the application queries. Respond promptly to any communication you receive from the ASD about areas that you have left blank, or were unable to respond to.
Step 4
After the completed application has been received it will be vetted by the executive directors of the three instructional divisions. Once approved, your online application will be viewable by site principals in the AppliTrack system. You will be notified by the ASD Human Resources or Training and Professional Development departments via e-mail that you have been approved for placement. Carefully follow any directions provided in the e-mail. There are different placement processes depending upon the ASD division and university you are working with. The initial online approval process is the same.
