ASD Preservice Teaching Opportunities

ASD currently partners with 12 universities to place student teachers.
The Anchorage School District partners with universities in and outside of Alaska to place student teachers in classrooms with master teachers. Appropriate placements and enhanced customer service result in the district attracting new hires. ASD Training and Professional Development offers early career teachers ongoing training, a strong induction program, and opportunities to be matched with skilled mentors.
APPLICATION DEADLINES:
Fall placements - February 1 - 28
Spring placements - September 1 - 30
*Principals: The ASD does not make arrangements for university practicum or observation hours. If university students contact you directly regarding practicums or observation hours, please feel free to handle these as you see fit.
Host Teachers
Are you interested in giving back to the teaching profession by hosting a student teacher? This is a very rewarding experience that helps teachers become more reflective practitioners. Not only do you have the chance to positively influence a preservice teacher, but it is also a great way to re-energize your own classroom practices. The teaching/learning process between host teacher and student teacher is truly reciprocal.

Universities
Thank you so much for sending your student teachers our way. You have prepared them with the art of teaching, and now you hope they discover the heart of teaching under the watchful eye of a master host teacher. The Anchorage School District is proud to work alongside a growing number of local and outside universities in a partnership to train preservice teachers. We look forward to the challenge.
Any University that has revised its pre-service teacher program or is placing pre-service teachers for the first time in the Anchorage School District should complete our university survey.
