Automatic registration for substitutes who worked in 2007-08

For the 2008-09 school year, substitutes who are interested in continuing with their employment will not need to pre-register.  If you have worked five days during the school year you will automatically be registered.  We will be sending you an informational packet in August indicating changes in the system. If you are currently on judicial probation you will not be considered for a substitute position.

Current 2008 issues for substitutes

  • Bonus – The 2007-2008 bonus will be paid out on June 17, 2008.
  • Interns – Please bring  your official transcripts or clear copies of your official transcripts with your bachelors posted to the Sub Dispatch office in the Human Resources Department by August 2008.
  • PE, Art, & Music – These jobs may be itinerant which means you would travel to multiple sites during the course of the day. Please read/listen carefully to ‘special instructions’ for jobs of this type.  If you cannot or are not willing to travel please cancel yourself from the job.
  • Canceling a job – If you must cancel a job right before the start of the job, please call the school and let them know you are canceling.
  • Illness – If you know you are not feeling well,  please do not accept a job.  This creates a bigger problem for the school if you need to leave halfway through the job.

Substitute Teacher Training

ASD provides several resources to substitute teachers. There will be Substitute Teacher Training offered to those who are new to subbing and/or new to the ASD. Many of the Web sites listed here contain resources that can be downloaded for use in the classroom. Two substitute teacher trainings are provided and are available to all substitutes: SubInstructor eTraining CD with on-line assessment, and face-to-face Classroom Management Training. All new substitutes are required to take the SubInstructor eTraining CD with on-line assessment. Those who have one year or less of their own classroom teaching experience are required to take the face-to-face Classroom Management training.
