Exploring Our Solar System Introduction
You work for a major space
corporation that has decided they want to begin sending humans to certain
planets in our solar system. Your job will be to investigate a planet and
prepare a pamphlet on it. These pamphlets will be distributed to the public
in an attempt to encourage people to visit the planets. Task
You will use this webquest: á
to gain information to
prepare a 2-page pamphlet with pictures or graphics using Appleworks. á
To learn about the features
of your planet. á
To improve your
ability to use Internet sites to obtain required information. Process
1.
Each
student will select one planet from the following list: á
Mars á
Venus á
Neptune á
Mercury á
Jupiter á
Uranus á
Pluto á
Saturn 2.
Each
student will complete a pamphlet to advertise his/her planets. Each page
listed below should include at least one picture á
Location
page (including how many miles from the Earth) á
Important
and interesting features page. 3.
Each
student will plot his or her planet on a map of the solar system hung in the
classroom. Final project- brochure: 3 points- well organized, formatting is attractive and consistent. 2 points- completed, at least one page organized effectively, consistent format. 1 point- not fully completed, not effectively organized, format not consistent. Mechanics: 3 points- few spelling, capitalization, and punctuation errors. 2 points- some spelling, capitalization, and punctuation errors. 1 point- many spelling, capitalization, and punctuation errors. Content accuracy: 3 points- completely accurate, excellent number of details. 2 points- mostly accurate, all information related to task, lacking some details needed to explain the pictures. 1 point- some inaccuracies, several errors in information, lacking details needed to explain the pictures. Independent
work skills: 3 points- worked independently, used teacher as resource and made independent decisions. 2 points- used time effectively, but did not ask productive questions, required teacher input before making decisions about the project, focused on task most of the time. 1 point- did not work independently, required much teacher direction, did not focus on task. Conclusion Upon completion of this activity you should be more proficient in browsing the Internet to find specific information needed for a project. You will be able to use Appleworks to present information in an attractive format. Your knowledge of the solar system will be widened. |
