Young Reader's Choice
The Pacific Northwest Library Association's Young Reader's Choice Award is the oldest children's choice award in the U.S. and Canada. The Anchorage School district is using the School Board adopted reading program, Houghton Mifflin. Houghton Mifflin is based on scientific reading search. It includes the five essential elements outlined by the National Reading Panel for effectively teaching a comprehensive literacy program: Phonemic awareness; Phonics; Fluency; Vocabulary; and Comprehension.
