About ASD’s recycling program
Thanks to a generous grant from the Municipality of Anchorage Solid Waste Services Department, and in partnership with Alaska Waste and Green Star, ASD has established mixed paper recycling at its 95 schools and five administrative buildings. The recycling coordinator is working with local contractors to enhance the district’s program. The focus for now is on mixed paper — the bulk of the district’s recyclable material, constituting hundreds of tons each year. Once paper recycling is fully operational, the district will evaluate other materials to include in the program. See what mixed paper items can be recycled.

APRIL 2011
Design contest winners announced
More than 100 students submitted designs incorporating the concepts of recycling and
reuse, for a chance to win a generous prize package for their school. The prizes were
donated by CRS, experts in construction and demolition waste reduction, recycling and
reuse, and include a $1000 to be used to enhance the school's recycling program for the
top three designs. The first-place design will be seen on the sides of a CRS truck, so look
for it around Anchorage this summer.
Congratulations to the winning schools and to all the artists involved.
