Community Wellness has provided students an opportunity to explore giving,
sharing and caring to a local community agency. Students donate class time
learning all aspects of documenting and recording inventory for the vending
machines. Students keep accurate pen and paper statistics as well as learning
how to input and record data on the computer using Excel. Students have learned
janitorial, yard maintenance and landscaping skills, which give the students
basic entry level wrok experience. Community Wellness recognizes students’
efforst by letters of recommendation, verbal praise, certificates of community
service donation, and an end of the year luncheon. Community Wellness also
offers students the use of conference rooms for meeting and general support and
caring.

Hope Wellness
Community Leadership has also worked closely with Hope Wellness by providing
bookkeeping services, ordering sodas for the vending machine, watering plants
and gardening. The students have learned a lot of skills which they can take
out into the community — not only socially but also as entry level work
position(s).
At the end of the year, the students earn a profit from the school store and
various caring and sharing activities. Those funds are donated to the school in
a variety of categories. Last year funds were donated to the P.E. department to
purchase inline skates for the lifetime fitness class. They also sponsored the
Field Fun Day by renting a dunk tank for our wonderful administration to
participate in.
Kids’ Kitchen
Community Leadership has been closely involved in working with Kids’ Kitchen by
stocking shelves, yard maintenance and janitorial work; students also explore
social skills within the community at sponsored settings.

“Community Leadership students at Whaley are role models for the rest of the
Whaley staff, the community agencies that they work in and visit, and of
course, their own community living. My goal as a Community Leadership teacher
is to provide my students with the ability to take school skills and apply them
outside of the school setting in an appropriate, functionable, empowering
manner.”
-Clarinda Vandegrift, Community Leadership Teacher
