Josie Sprinkle, Student Council Secretary, Abbott Loop Elementary

No, it wasn’t Big Bird, or Super Chicken, or even Mr. McChicken…it was our principal, Mr. Wieneke, dressed up as Subman in a six foot sandwich box. He shuffled stiffly across the gym floor to present another Subway sponsored award at the Student of the Month assembly — our student body cheered!

Subway of Alaska joined us each month at our awards assemblies. They handed out"Citizen of the Month" certificates, as well as cool Subway hats for the seven students that earned that award each month.

Over the year they also provided our students with meals as incentives for many programs at our school. Some of those programs included a reading program (given at designated levels), and a reading-log accomplishment (reading and keeping track of how many pages you read). Six students got to go once a month to lunch with our principal at Subway on Lake Otis (for a Caught- Being-Good incentive program). Once, Subway even gave our school free tickets to a Seawolves Hockey Game, and all of our Student Council members got to go to. That was really cool!!

Subway also treated our teachers on several occasions with a big Party Platter full of sandwiches for when they were having a training or working late.

The students and staff are truly grateful to Subway for supporting our school this year. We are looking forward to them being our business partners for the years to come!

"The value of Subway’s support was most evident in the smiles and joyful eyes of the children as they heard their names called over the intercom or in front of the assembled student body."

Eileen Burnside, first grade teacher

" It was an incredible experience for my students to be rewarded and recognized in the community for their positive leadership at school.

Rhonda Neill, parent

I really appreciate Subway’s support of the school wide reading initiative. It really got my kids to read and turn in their reading logs.

Mary Schrage, PTA Vice-President

"Our relationship with Subway really recreated our sense of community at the school and promoted our external assets for our students. "
