Prudential Jack White
Vista Real Estate has the dual distinction of being
South Anchorage High School’s first school
business partnership and the first real estate company
to be a school business partner with an Anchorage
school. Kathleen Tonn (Licensee) enthusiastically
stepped forward back in September with a vision to
bring Prudential’s Spirit of Youth initiative
and training for community service to our students.
With the support of Naomi Fuller, one of the owners
of Prudential Jack White Vista Real Estate, Kathleen
created a seven-week Spirit of Community training
program focused on training South’s students
how to organize and conduct a successful community
service activity.
Kathleen developed the topics for each of the seven
weekly training sessions and created a Prudential Speakers’ Bureau
from which she scheduled local business and community
leaders to present to our students. Students met with
Kathleen and a featured guest speaker from the Anchorage
business community once per week after school for an
hour or longer. A different topic was introduced and
discussed at each meeting and students received a certificate
for their participation. |

This program was very beneficial
for our students and many who participated are working
toward accumulating the 100 hours of volunteer service
required to win Prudential’s Presidential Service
Award. Through this activity, Kathleen brought to
light the need for our school to create an executive
board comprised of students and staff to coordinate
the community service activities within the school.
This is an excellent idea that we intend to pursue
in the next year. Our future plans include creating
this executive board and taking our training model
to the other schools as well.
We look forward to working with Kathleen and Prudential
Jack White Vista Real Estate in the years to come.
