The community at Willow
Crest Elementary is proud have Costco as a School
Business Partner. They have supported our school
in numerous ways.
Costco has provided food for our students and their
families on many occasions. Costco has been providing
snacks for field trips, family night events, snacks
for the school nurse to hand out, as well as during
our week of formal testing. They have donated many
holiday dinners to families at Willow Crest. New this
year is that Costco provides lunch to 55 people one
day every month.
Currently, 10 Costco employees arrive weekly to work
one-on-one with struggling readers as part of our phonetic
reading program.
A project was started this year that supports writing.
Costco began developing large portraits of each student
that are displayed in our hallway along with a narrative
that the student wrote.
Costco provided prizes for our spelling bee winners
and supports us with other items when requested. They
purchased a web cam in conjunction with a project we
had with the Alaska Zoo, bought books for our library
and had custom-made shelves built to house the books.
They have purchased books and provided food for our
neighborhood substance abuse shelter in 2004. |

Carol Balassone, Costco marketing
manager, attends our School Health Improvement Program
team meetings and coordinates events with Willow
Crest staff for improving health school-wide!
Willow Crest staff collected money and sent a large
floral arrangement in appreciation for all they do
for us. Nine staff members volunteered their time over
the busy Christmas holiday, and during the spring,
classes are bussed to Costco to volunteer by gathering
boxes, straightening clothing, returning items to shelves
or helping as needed. Costco is committed to helping not only our school
but also the community where our students live. Their
dedication to our school and community makes the School
Business Partner program a success! We look forward
to working with them in future years.
