Anchorage School Business Partnership (ASBP) is a great success story because of the partnership with the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce (ACC). Since the inception of ASBP in 1991, ACC has been a partner – shoulder to shoulder – in moving ASBP positively forward.
In the early years, the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce provided a forum to present the School Business Partnership story to its membership twice each month. We highlighted new partnerships that were developed and encourage other businesses to become involved. The first year, we ended with 28 partnerships and knew we were on to something very good for the community. Today, we have 460 active partnerships – all of our schools have business partners in education.

As the years went on, the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce continued to be our evangelists by promoting participation at every opportunity. They were always open to new suggestions on ways to encourage greater involvement. Anchorage School Business Partnerships found that it had so many businesses becoming participants that we no longer could highlight them all at the Make It Monday Forums. ASBP and ACC found other methods of keeping the program in front of the business community. Two of those are to have a monthly article in the ACC’s newsletter and presenting an exemplary, interesting partnership at the Make It Monday Forum once each month. These monthly presentations are 3 to 4 minutes in length and normally done by students.
A Non-Profit all volunteer Board of Directors runs the Anchorage School Business Partnership program and meets once each month providing guidance and direction. The Anchorage Chamber of Commerce is a member of that Board. They never miss a meeting and are the link to a large segment of the business community. Each year, a celebration is held in recognition of all of the businesses involved in support of the Anchorage School District. This celebration is in collaboration with ACC and is scheduled and held during a spring Make Monday Forum.
We cannot say enough about how important the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce has been and continues to be in the success of the Anchorage School Business Partnerships. Let it be known that because of their constant, positive belief and support of the pro-gram, ASBP will continue to enhance the education of our youth and build strength in our community. |
