This SBP was initiated by Holiday Station Stores, Ken Victorick (District Manager) and Tom Iverson (Regional Director). These gentlemen first visited Tyson, Mr, Kito (Principal) and Marilou Cunningham (Family School Services Coordinator), and asked what they could do for our students and our community. We gave them a copy of our school “Needs List” and they chose to serve as Volunteer Listeners for our students one day a week and to provide juice for our Family Night Parent Involvement activities.
One of four gentlemen, Ken Victorick, Tom Iverson, Mohammed Kasim, or Brian McEnnis, comes in each Thursday at lunchtime to listen to students read-to fulfill a 20 minute daily reading assignment. They act as mentors for our students, who thrive on the one to one attention. They have already donated cases of juice for our Science Festival Family Night and plan to bring in more juices to be given to students for rewards or incentives. The enthusiasm and positive energy that the volunteers show our students shows a True community partnership. |
