Key Bank and Central Middle School of Science entered into a school business
partnership in October of 1993. Looking back at the original partnership agreement, it is wonderful to see how the relationship has changed and evolved over the last fourteen years. Key Bank offers Central staff and students a variety of opportunities.
Key Bank has been a strong financial supporter of Central’s new Landmark Program by contributing money for student
field trips that allow students to improve their knowledge of mapping and GPS skills.
At the end of each semester, SBPC students and award nominees go to the main branch Key Bank boardroom for a formal board meeting. The SBPC board meeting coordinators work with Ms. Rebecca Schmidt to set the date, arrange use of the boardroom, provide snacks, and facilitate the meeting. Key Bank provides savings bonds each semester to one student from each team in recognition of their outstanding achievements. Students, nominated by their teachers, write a one-page essay about themselves. In turn, Key Bank employees read the essays and nominations,
and then decide on one overall winner from each grade. The students are recognized at the board meeting in front of Central’s business partners, school board members, Key Bank employees, parents, and other students. Their names are added to perpetual plaques that are kept in the show case at Central MSOS. The board meetings provide SBPC students an opportunity to observe and participate in a formal business
meeting where they must dress and act as professionals. Ms. Schmidt does an excellent job of encouraging students and supporting their efforts.

During the annual Pennies for the Penniless Campaign, Central students and community members donate money to Kids’ Kitchen. Central relies on Key Bank year after year for supplies and assistance with money collection. Through Ms. Schmidt, the use of money bags are secured, Loomis Armored Car is contracted to collect and count the money, and a check is written and presented
at the awards assembly. Most years, bank president, Brian Nerland makes the check presentation to Elgin Jones of Kids’ Kitchen. Mr. Nerland enjoys coming to Central because he is an alumnus!
Finally, Ms. Schmidt participates in the SBPC’s semi-annual Mock Job Interviews providing a crucial and unique experience for middle school students. Rebecca Schmidt has always been a great support for Central students and always has positive comments for them. Central Middle School of Science
appreciates all the assistance Key Bank provide.
Key Bank Awards are presented
each semester during the SBP
class board meeting by Becky Schmidt. |
