Each year, Costco DeBarr provides a substantial amount of support to the staff and families of two local elementary schools. Students at both Ursa Minor and Ptarmigan elementary schools are extremely fortunate to have Costco as a school business partner.
The partnership events begin at registration, before the first bell of the year even rings. For three days in August, when families stream into the schools to enroll their children, a Costco representative is on site. Costco donates free backpacks to any student who does not have one. Hundreds of backpacks have been given to students throughout the years.
Costco employees can be counted upon to attend family nights at both schools as well. Even better, they usually show up with cake! A Ptarmigan teacher said, "The Costco cakes have become a staple at our events and families look forward to this sweet treat to top off the evening's activities."
Costco also provides both schools with a $50 Costco cash card each month. This is incredibly helpful and allows the schools to purchase miscellaneous supplies for their buildings and families.
At Ptarmigan, the entire staff is treated to a luncheon each year. To show their appreciation, both schools create student artwork that is proudly on display at the Costco store. For the past two years, the Ptarmigan Choir, led by Peggy McBride, has put on a wonderful mini-concert at Costco during the winter holidays. Parents love seeing their children perform in a public setting, and the Costco employees and shoppers love the atmosphere created by the choir. Both schools also recognize Costco in their monthly newsletter, SBP bulletin board, banners, and marquees.
The Ursa Minor and Ptarmigan Elementary communities look forward to maintaining a relationship with Costco DeBarr in the future, and thank them for their generosity! |
