Outstanding School Business Partnerships Recognized

Anchorage, Alaska – March 3, 2009 -- Outstanding Anchorage School Business Partnership program participants will be recognized at the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce “Make It Monday” luncheon held on April 27th at the Dena’ina Convention Center from noon to 1 pm. Doors open at 11:30

The Anchorage School Business Partnership, which began in 1991 as a joint venture between the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce and the Anchorage School District, has grown from 28 businesses to more than 450 partnerships throughout the city. Partners provide schools with guest speakers, classroom volunteers, on-the-job work experience for students, material and monetary resources, and other special activities.

Congratulations to all the nominees!

The STAR Awards were initiated in 1996 to recognize an outstanding partnership in the Anchorage School District. At that time, there were 190 partnerships and one award was given. As the number of participating organizations increased, so have the award opportunities. The 27-member School Business Partnership Board of Director, superintendent, and executive director select the STAR award winners based on the following criteria:

  • Enthusiastic support of School Business Partnerships and the school or schools with whom the nominee is partnered
  • Commitment to educational enhancement of youth
  • Excellence of activities or program
  • Dedication to the continuation and success of the program
  • Participation on a regular, dependable basis
  • Willingness to be flexible and innovative in supporting and assuring success
