What’s NCLB? In January 2002, the federal law that governs public education was reauthorized and named the No Child Left Behind (NCLB). This law brings major reforms to public schools and is designed to increase accountability and improve student achievement. “Highly qualified?” What does that mean? All public elementary, middle, and high school teachers who teach “core” academic subjects must be “highly qualified” under NCLB by the June 30, 2006. Paraprofessionals who work as classroom aides, tutors, or teacher assistants in schools that receive Title I federal funding, must meet NCLB requirements by June 30, 2006. Training and Professional Development offers support for teachers and paraprofessionals in meeting NCLB requirements. Summary of Paraprofessional Supports:

Substitute Teachers Training and Professional Development offers support for substitute teachers through quality training in classroom management. Half day trainings are offered throughout the year. Register through Substitute Dispatch at 742-4133 or 742-4128.
