Farewell to Winter Celebration

Turnagain Elementary School

Noon - 3 p.m.

Special guest performances by "Sudarushka", the Russian American Colony Singers, Margarita Kharlova, and more!

This Russian tradition is now an annual event at Turnagain Elementary, which includes an imaginary journey on the Trans-Siberian Expressway, traditional Russian food, entertainment and performances. The culminating event has students taking turns riding in the cart carrying a wooden “Mother Winter,” who eventually traveled outside to the ice rink where she was set afire while all shouted dasvidanya, or good-bye, Mother Winter!

 

Events include:

  • Student group performances: drama and music
  • Russian and American food
  • Join the fun and wear fairy tale, animal, or traditional Russian costumes
  • Russian marketplace and silent auction
  • Carnival games
  • Horse/carriage ride
  • Parade to bid farewell to winter
